Took the truck into the garage to check the tightness of the tranny pan bolts and get another view of everything so I dont have any surprises come inspection time (Thursday) and noticed some rust bubbles on the tranny pan. Decided to get some of the dirt and grime away from the bottom of the pan with a wire brush and took three light strokes across it. Apparently I am Thor because this caused a leak to start pouring the transmission fluid out like the dickins. So now I need a transmission pan and I can't seem to find one that will work and isn't 300 dollars. I checked amazon and ebay and there really isn't anything with enough information to give me a definite yes/no. So I am enlisting your help, asap. This is my only mode of transportation and I need to get it up and out of the garage. [HUH]

You have not stated Auto or Manual. I will assume Auto. In this case you should have a 45RFE Trans. If you have a Manual then I apologize as I have no experience with them in this case. I see you have a 4X4, this means you need the 45RFE pan for the 4X4 as the clearance for the filters are different between the 2X4 & 4X4. I have a Mag-Hitech and love it as it has a drain plug and temp sensor tap on it. It is very nice to be able to drain your fluid before removing the pan so you can change the filters. There have been published issues with concerns obout the exhaust & 4x4 Trns cross brace interfering with the increased volume Trans Pans but I have no issues and it fits very nicely. These are a bit expensive but they are worth the money in the long run. If you need a OEM Then I would recommend the dealer or a junk yard. I have pasted a few sources that I found online from various sources and cost points for you. I hope that they are some help to you.

Thanks guys. You were right to assume its an auto Nemo; my mistake for not mentioning it earlier. A friend of mine is a transmission specialist who does 45RFE rebuilds all the time. He has them in stock in his shop down in CT. Just forgot about him haha. He's getting it to me by the weekend.

I ended up doing a temporary fix on the leaky one though. There was a hole about 1/8 in. wide so I took a hole punch to make it 1/4 in. and perfectly round. Then took a bolt and two rubber washers and tightened a nut to smash them around the bolt/hole. A little loctite on the bolt/nut and it's not leaking anymore. Good fix for the time being.

mine did that it gets hot from the exhaust crossover, makes it rust out, my pan was like 30$ from carquest or something.

The one I'm getting is aluminum; it'll save it from happening in the future. Makes me want to wrap the pipe in heat tape though. Sheesh. Truck barely has 70k on it.

Soooooooo I got the new tranny pan. Turns out its the wrong one. Too long, too narrow and too shallow. So I'm like wtf this has the 45RFE, right? Well I look through all the paperwork on the truck and I find nothing to suggest otherwise, but I do find that it has the 3.92 gears. So that's pretty interesting. Anyway I look up the 42RE tranny pan just to see if that's the tranny I've got, and sure enough, for some reason they loaded up a 3.9L with a 3.92 gear ratio and a Jeep transmission. THE EF?!

Wow the weird shit just keeps happening, I never heard of a 3.9 having the 3.92 gears, thought it was only a v8 option

Or it could be a 46RE. Who the hell knows. I can't find any reference to point to either with definite assurance.

UPDATE: Called the dealer! Turns out it's a 42RE. WHY!? Because Jesus wants it that way, apparently.

Have you maybe tried ebay? maybe there is aftermarket ones out there, unless you fixed the problem already at time in which this reply is useless, lol
